Favorite Spring Lip Products March 17, 2013

Spring is on the brink of breaking through so I thought I’d share some of my favorite Spring lip products!

On Fire Red, Nearly There, Fruit Punch

On Fire Red is a part of the VIVID collection by Maybelline.  This range of lipsticks is such a hit from Maybelline.  They are SUPER opaque and creamy to apply.  This shade, On Fire Red, is a bold, true-red color.  It’s highly pigmented and lasts pretty well.  I do find that you have somewhat of a stain left behind when it does wear off which is a great thing IMO.  You do have to be careful when applying and I recommend applying a lipliner beforehand to prevent bleeding and help guide the shape.  The Vivid lipsticks are found at drugstores and are priced at $7.49.

Nearly There from Maybelline has been in my collection since highschool.  I have always turned to this shade as my go-to nude color.  It is a nude with pink undertones which works well with my own lipcolor.  It does have a slight gold shimmer but it’s not obnoxiously noticeable.  It lasts well through the day and although I do have to touch up after a couple of hours I don’t mind the hassle because I love the shade so much!  This color is a part of their permanent ColorSensational collection and is priced at $7.49.

Fruit Punch is a new addition to the Color Sensational range by Maybelline.  I purchased this color a couple of months ago and I put it on 2-3 times a week because it’s just so gorgeous.  It’s a beautiful strawberry, pink shade with a tiny bit of golden shimmer.  I think the color payoff is great with this shade and a perfect way to brighten your face.  I usually pair this with a simple eye look and soft foundation so that the lips are the main attraction.  This shade is $7.49 as well.

Lilac, Temptress, Softsilver Red, Sugar Plum, Berry Smoothie

First, Lilac is an old lipstick from Revlon I’ve rediscovered and I’m so glad I did.  It’s a beautiful soft, purple shade and it’s so easy to wear.  When I think about purple lipsticks, I don’t think attractive but this is such a soft shade of purple it really works well.  This lipstick has great pigmentation and is super hydrating.  I think this would work great with tan, olive or medium tone complexions.  It is priced at $7.99.

Temptress is a shade in the Revlon Super Lustrous collection.  It’s creamy texture makes it moisturizing on the lips and is a beautiful soft pink color.  It does have a small amount of gold shimmer to it but again, nothing too obnoxious.  I really love this shade in the spring/summer months.  It gives a youthful glow to any makeup look.  It’s $7.99 at local drugstores.

Softsilver Red is an addition to the same Super Lustrous collection.  This has more of a frost finish, which I’m not a HUGE fan of, but when I pair it with a gloss the frosty finish is not so bad.  I really do love the shade, it’s a rosy, deeper red color.  This color would look stunning on tan skin in the midst of the summer months!  This lipstick is also $7.99.

Here we are at the Revlon Lip Butters.  They have completely stole my heart!  Sugar Plum is a sheer mauve shade.  The best thing about any of the Lip Butter’s is their creamy, moisturizing finish.  I mean, I can’t say enough about how much I love the formula of these lipsticks.  They don’t have the best longevity but their consistency is such a wonder to apply that I don’t mind it one bit.  You can build the color with a few coats but it won’t go on too opaque so beware of that.

Berry Smoothie has been in my collection since the Lip Butter range released. I LOVE this sheer shade of berry pink.  It’s got some gold shimmer to it and it leaves a super glossy finish to the lips.  No need for gloss with these bad girls! 🙂  The Lip Butter’s are $7.49.

Pin Up Peach, Mocha Muse

Now, the Maybelline Color Whisper’s have not been my favorite formula.  I like to have more opaque shades of lipstick but for someone who just wants a sheer wash of color to their lips these are PERFECT.  I do find that they’re a little drying but if I apply a lip balm or gloss on top I’m good to go.

Pin Up Peach is a sheer pinky peach color.  I usually wear this when I’m on the go and need something quick but it’s a beautiful soft color that is an everyday lipstick!

Mocha Muse is a pinky brown shade that I do find I grab for a lot.  It’s a soft nude color on my already pink lips so it tones them down a little.  I do like that they’re so easy to apply, no need for a mirror as the color is so sheer you could easily wipe away any excess color from the edges of your lip line.  These are $7.49.

NARS – Female Trouble, Revlon – Peony
Revlon – Coral Reef, Benefit – Dandelion

On to my favorite lip products!  Gloss is such an easy product for me.  I have naturally pink lips so just adding a little gloss on by itself is a quick and easy way to add some dimension to my lips.

NARS’ Female Trouble – #1 lip product of all time for me.  I got this in Chicago at The Makeup Show last summer and have purchased two more since then.  It’s my everyday gloss that I couldn’t live without.  It cancels out the pink in my lips to leave such a beautiful mauve, mid-tone purple to my lips.  I just LOVE it.  I also add it to any newer shade of lipstick that I try, and maybe don’t quite love the color.  If I add this gloss on top of a not-so-right shade of lipstick it immediately corrects it.  It’s priced at $25.00 and can be found at Sephora or NARS’ website.

Revlon Peony is a BEAUTIFUL peach gloss that can easily be worn alone for a little bit of sheer color.  The bits of gold glitter in the gloss leave a beautiful shine to the lips.  It’s not sticky at all and feels great on the lips.  This can be found at any drugstore at $7.49.

Revlon Color Reef is another BRIGHT coral shade that’s perfect for spring or summer.  It’s a quick pick-me-up shade and if you layer the color becomes more opaque.  This is $7.49 as well.

Benefit Dandelion is a gloss I got in a set with blush and highlighter.  I find that I can add this gloss on top of ANY lipstick to give a little shine and it works beautifully.  I absolutely LOVE the smell of this lip gloss too – it just immediately makes me think of spring flowers and candy all together.  This can be found at Benefit’s website or at Sephora or Ulta for $16.00.

So, there you have all of my favorite spring lip products!  Most can be found for a great price at the drugstore and the ones that are a little pricey are well worth the price, IMO.

Let me know what some of your favorite Spring shades of lip products are in the comments below!

January Favorites February 1, 2013

When it comes to my makeup, the only way I can determine if something is a “favorite” of mine is when I grab for it everyday!  I’ve seen so many products come and go from the top of my vanity to STUFFED into one of my vanity drawers but there have been some things in the month of January that I’ve made sure to keep in clear sight so I won’t forget them.  Here are a few makeup products that my face hasn’t been able to live without this month.

Josie Maran Argan Color Stick in Petal Pink

This cream blush is great for my skin in the colder months – it doesn’t dry my cheeks and gives a subtle glow alongside a beautiful pinky rose hue.  It also has Vitamin E and essential fatty acids, it’s 100% organic, chemical-free and as an added bonus you can use this on your lips or eyes for a rosy pout or youthful looking eye.

Nivea Lip Butter in Rasberry Rose Kiss

I had been eyeing this lip balm for awhile now in my local drugstore and FINALLY got it a few weeks ago and I am so glad I did.  I use this on a daily basis for either a base for my lipsticks or alone as a hydrating lip balm.  It smells divine but the KICKER for me is that it doesn’t TASTE at all.  I’m the type that can’t stand tasting my lipstick, lip balm or gloss so this product gets two thumbs up!

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation

Let me tell you, this is one amazing drugstore product.  I’m weary about buying foundations from the drugstore because there are NEVER, ever, samples to test the shade, consistency, scent, etc.  I’ve read and heard so many great things about this foundation, I had to try it myself.  The first day I tried this foundation my husband came home from work and gave me such beautiful compliments so that told me all I needed to know!  I did a full “first impression” review on this product as well: https://chronicledbeauty.wordpress.com/category/first-impressions/.

Loreal Infallible Eye Shadow in Amber Rush

I’ve had this in my collection for awhile and unfortunately had not touched it in way too long!  My daughter, Ava, who LOVES going through my vanity drawers and pretending to put on makeup just like her mommy, pulled this out and said “Have it?” in the most adorable voice you could imagine.  Thank you, Ava, for re-introducing me to a beautiful shadow that I use constantly now!  It’s a highly-pigmented pale, pinky, bronzy color (like that description, don’t you?) and it’s the shade I’ve been wearing on a daily basis since Ava pulled it out.

On to the lipsticks, my new obsession…

Maybelline Color Sensational in Fruit Punch, Covergirl Lip Perfection in Flame, Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Sugar Plum and Maybelline Color Sensational in Peachy Scene

Every, single, day I have worn one of these lipsticks.  I think it’s become a problem because each time I put one on I feel like I’m cheating on another – it’s almost sad how much I love these colors.  Each one has a great consistency and while I may need to touch some up more than others, I’m more than willing to do it.  The color payoff for these is great as well.   I think because it’s been so flippin’ freezing here in Virginia recently these lipstick shades all remind me of those warm spring days and summer nights that I can’t wait any longer for!!  So thank you Maybelline, Covergirl and Revlon for giving me a bit of springtime jitters, every day!

Benefit Watt’s Up Highlighter

I received this sample from Sephora as a birthday gift a few days into January and I’ve been constantly using it.  It’s a beautiful champagne shade and I think it gives a perfect subtle amount of glow to the skin.  I am running out of it quicker than I anticipated so the full-version will be on my vanity very soon!

So that’s it, my favorites for January 2013 are right there!  I can’t wait to share all the things I’m loving each month with you makeup loving beauties.

Now, I want to know what has been your #1 product you have grabbed for the most this past month?

First Impression of Revlon’s NEW Nearly Naked Foundation January 27, 2013

Today I will be doing a first impression review of Revlon’s new Nearly Naked Foundation.

So this is how a first impression works:  I’ll show you a picture of myself with prepped skin, moisturizer, eye cream and primer, which I use on a daily basis.  Then I’ll show a picture of the foundation on and describe the texture, fragrance, feel, coverage level, etc.  Lastly, I’ll do a final review at the end of the day, along with a picture, to show the longevity of the product and how it wears through the day.  So, here we go!

The NEW foundation from Revlon runs about $10.00 at most drugstore locations.  The color range has 16 shades to choose from which is great for a drugstore foundation.  Revlon claims this foundation will balance the skin with buildable coverage of flaws, perfect the skin’s tone and texture, and does not leave a heavy or cakey/greasy mess.

First, here is my NO MAKEUP self – darkest dark circles you’ll ever see and all – but you know what, I just do not care!  This is for YOU guys!

Image

The next photo is with JUST the foundation and last is of my full-face makeup.

Image

Here, you can tell that it definitely does even my skin tone. While my monster dark circles are still present, I’ve found that ONLY my heavy duty concealer does the trick of covering those babies.

I’ve finished with the rest of my makeup here. I did not use any powder to set the foundation at all because I think it gives a really NATURAL glow to the skin without looking shiny at all, which I love in a foundation. It did take around 20 minutes for the foundation to set by itself, meaning to fully dry.

As of now, I’m LOVING this foundation.  It feels super light on the skin and I think I did good on the color selection which is ALWAYS hard buying from the drugstore.  It does have a slight scent to it but that doesn’t last long whatsoever. I think it looks really natural and this definitely allows my skin to show through while still giving good coverage.

I put the foundation on at 11:24 and I’m going to give the foundation 8 hours to sit on my skin before reviewing again to see how well it lasts through the day.  I will update with my final thoughts and grade around 7 tonight!

8 hours later!

Here is a picture of the makeup 8 hours after first application.  I think it lasted great, coverage-wise, throughout the day.  As you can tell from this picture my forehead and nose are GLOWING so I recommend if you have combination/oily skin to add a setting powder on any areas that get oily through the day or purchase the pressed powder that accompanies this foundation.  I didn’t apply any setting powder in order to see how the foundation truly wore through the day.
Overall, I am super pleased with the Nearly Naked Foundation and I would give it a A-.

If you have any products you want my First Impression review on please leave a comment below and I’ll be happy to try it out!
